PRODUCT RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT

Prototyping & Testing for Ideas Nobody Has Built Yet

For a machine that has to be custom-designed, the first step is not production — it is verifying the mechanism with a working prototype tested on real material.

MECHATRONICS RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT (R&D LAB)

The R&D team at HASY Industries takes on problems that call for a custom-designed machine: a gravimetric batching system for the Asean Tire factory, a milk cake line for the Moc Chau dairy, an automatic label sewing machine for the Tinh Loi garment factory, and equipment for the DÓO Entertainment high-tech amusement centre. The usual path: idea and design → prototype → trials → production version.

WHY BUILD A PROTOTYPE FIRST

Turning an idea on paper into a machine that works

Many companies and inventors have bold automation ideas but run into the same obstacle: not knowing which mechanism is best, which materials can take the load, or which control logic will deliver the accuracy needed.

Rushing straight into a full-scale machine means technical risk can multiply the cost — or force a complete rebuild if it does not run.

HASY’s R&D and prototyping service builds you a functional prototype — smaller and cheaper, but able to verify the working principle and measure the key technical parameters before you commit major capital.

THE R&D PROCESS

4 Levels of Technology Transfer at HASY Industries

A step-by-step path that helps you keep development risk and budget under control:

3D design of the production version of the Moc Chau milk cake line
LEVEL 01: CONCEPT & 3D DESIGN

Feasibility Review & 3D Simulation

Study the principle, calculate the kinematics and build a 3D model to check the mechanism before any steel is cut.

  • Build a complete 3D model of every mechanism.
  • Simulate the movement of the mechanisms in the 3D model.
  • Technical feasibility report and R&D budget estimate.

LEVEL 02: FUNCTIONAL PROTOTYPE

Building a Functional Prototype

Precision machining, electrical assembly and test programming of the prototype so it can run directly on real material at the workshop.

  • Build a single module or the full prototype, keeping cost down.
  • Run trials on real material to measure speed, accuracy and temperature.
  • Pinpoint physical bottlenecks and correct them early.

LEVEL 03: DESIGN FOR MANUFACTURING

Design for Manufacturing (DFM)

Refine the mechanical structure, remove unnecessary parts, tidy the wiring and standardise the build to lower the cost of manufacture.

  • Streamline the frame and actuators.
  • Favour common, easy-to-replace components.
  • Tune the PLC/HMI logic for stable, energy-efficient operation.

LEVEL 04: TECHNOLOGY TRANSFER

Technology Transfer & Commercial Build

Complete the drawings, electrical diagrams and operating documents, and hand over the finished machine or line to the client.

  • Hand over technical documents within the scope agreed for each project.
  • In-depth operation and maintenance training for the factory’s engineers.
  • Further units can be built on request.

R&D PROJECTS DELIVERED

From Idea and Prototype to a Working Machine

Three projects showing how HASY builds and tests prototypes before completing the production version.

Moc Chau milk cake production line built by HASY
FOOD PROCESSING · 2015

Milk cake line — Moc Chau dairy

HASY developed the idea and a 3D concept from the factory’s requirements, built a prototype and tested it at the factory, upgraded it to a further test version, and only then machined the production version, installed it and handed it over.

Gravimetric batching system for the Asean Tire factory
RUBBER INDUSTRY · 2020

Gravimetric batching system — Asean Tire factory

HASY developed the concept and 3D design to the client’s requirements, built a prototype system and tested it at the HASY workshop, then installed, commissioned and handed it over to the Asean Tire factory, in service from 2020.

Client: Asean Tire (Vee Rubber)

Automatic label sewing machine developed by HASY for Tinh Loi
GARMENTS · 2018

Automatic label sewing machine — Tinh Loi garment factory

HASY analysed the design and built a prototype, machined and test-ran the sample, finalised the production design, then installed it and put it into service. The equipment comprises an automatic sewing machine and an automatic label pick-and-sew system.

CONFIDENTIALITY & TECHNICAL DOCUMENTS

Confidentiality and a Clear Document Handover

Ideas and technical know-how belong to the business. This is how HASY handles information and ownership in R&D projects:

NDA signed on request

Client documents, drawings and production details are kept confidential. HASY can sign a non-disclosure agreement (NDA) before technical details are discussed.

Ownership agreed in the contract

Ownership of the designs and solutions developed in a project is set out clearly in that project’s contract.

Technical document handover

After acceptance, HASY hands over the technical documents (drawings, electrical diagrams, operating documents) within the scope agreed in the contract.

HOW AN R&D PROJECT RUNS

5 Steps from First Idea to Commercial Product

A lean engineering process, with every test stage visible to the client:

01

Brief & Confidentiality

Discuss the technical requirements in detail; sign an NDA if the client requests one.

02

Research & Feasibility Report

Work out the mechanical principle, build a 3D model and quote separately for the prototype.

03

Building the Prototype

Machine the parts, wire the control circuits and program the test logic.

04

Trials & Measurement

Run trials on real material, measure the error and fine-tune the mechanism.

05

Handover & Scale-up

Hand over the prototype and technical documents, then build the production version.

Frequently Asked Questions About New Equipment R&D

Answers on prototyping, confidentiality, design ownership and the path from a new machine to production.

We take on problems that need a machine researched and designed from scratch: special precision actuators, interactive robotic grippers, high-tech game systems built on microcontrollers or PLCs, automatic sewing machines tailored to a specific garment process, and automation for process steps that are still done by hand.

To reduce budget risk for the client, HASY usually splits an R&D project into 3 phases: (1) feasibility study and 3D model; (2) a prototype to test the principle (PoC – Proof of Concept) and evaluate it in practice; (3) the finished production version and handover.

Ownership of the designs, drawings and solutions developed in a project is set out in that project’s contract. HASY can sign a non-disclosure agreement (NDA) on request and hands over technical documents within the agreed scope.

An off-the-shelf machine is designed for general needs; custom R&D is for problems that call for a custom-designed machine. HASY starts with a 3D design, builds a prototype and runs trials with the client’s own material, and usually builds the production version only after the prototype has passed its tests.

Selected projects: a milk cake line for the Moc Chau dairy (2015), an automatic label sewing machine for the Tinh Loi garment factory (2018), a gravimetric batching system for the Asean Tire factory (2020), equipment for the DÓO Entertainment high-tech amusement centre (2015), and a 6-colour rotary screen printer presented on VTV’s Inventor show in 2013.
